Geothermal Systems
We are one of only a few NJ HVAC contractors with expertise in geothermal HVAC systems for homes. Contact us to learn more about geothermal and if it’s a good choice for your home.
How Does Geothermal Heating & Cooling Work?
A geothermal HVAC system works like a traditional heat pump, except that a geothermal system extracts natural heat energy from underground, not from the air as a traditional heat pump.
Geothermal uses pumps and a series of underground loops to transfer heat from your home back underground cooling mode or from underground to your home when in heating mode.
Geothermal for New Construction or Retrofit
While installing geothermal as part of new home construction is ideal, retrofitting to an existing home is possible. The upfront cost for geothermal is higher than a traditional HVAC system, but it is much more efficient.
For example, a traditional home air conditioner is 16-18 SEER*, while a geothermal system is 30-36 SEER. For heating, geothermal costs only one-third of what it costs to run a traditional gas or electric furnace.
*Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio is the maximum efficiency rating of an air conditioning system. A higher number is better.
